Five Things To Know Today

The Referendum, Tracing Your Irish Roots And A Dedicated Public Servant

1.  Today is Wednesday, March 15. The National Weather Service forecasts rain, with a possible thunderstorm and a high temperature near 48 degrees. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low temperature of 35 degrees.

2.  The Groton Town Council on Tuesday approved an explanation of  two referendum questions that will be on the ballot in May; one a proposal to reconstruct Thames Street, the other a plan for new school construction. The explanation will be mailed out to voters, so keep an eye out for it in your mailbox.

3.  A professional genealogist will be at the Groton Public Library at 7 p.m. today to offer a lecture on how to trace your Irish heritage. The program is free, and part of the World of Words Ireland this month at the library. For more information, click here.

4.  If your preteen or teenager wants to learn how to knit, a craft circle provides instruction from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Wednesdays in the library. There's no fee or registration required. To see the event listing, click here.

5.  Congratulations to Mack Kelly, who retired on March 4 after serving 28 years with the Department of Public Works.
