Food Fight: Time To Vote In The Best Cupcake Poll
We Got Your Nominations. Now Vote Among The Top Choices For The Stonington And Groton Cupcake Champion.
Yum. Cupcakes. Salted caramel amaretto, Mexican chocolate or just simple chocolate with vanilla frosting—they all sound good.
Stonington-Mystic and Groton Patch users are passionate about their cupcakes, and with good reason. We asked for your favorite places to grab a tasty treat in Stonington and Groton and got plenty of suggestions.
We’ve loved reading your comments on Stonington and Groton Patch as well as the comments posted to Stonington Patch Facebook and Groton Patch Facebook, but only one cupcake provider can be king. To finish off this Food Fight, we need you to vote on one of the top user choices as your favorite place to get a cupcake.
Here are your top choices:
Bleu Squid Bakery & Cheese Shop: cheese not cupcake might be in the name of this Olde Mistick Village store but Patch users like Chelsea Norton say their cupcakes are to die for.
Lis Bake Shop: pulled in the most nominations, including this one from user Ellen Gilbert: “The sour cream lemon blueberry, or perhaps the double chocolate with whipped cappuccino frosting. To die for! I have family in Maryland and New Hampshire and am not allowed to visit unless I bring cupcakes.”
McQuades Marketplace: was a late nominee among Patch users.
Mystic Market East and West: the Mystic specialty shop didn’t receive as many nominations as Bleu Squid or Lis Bake Shop by Patch’s Elissa Bass admitted she’s never walked away from a Mystic Market cupcake.
North End Deli: emerged as the Groton favorite. “The North End in Groton makes several different types of cupcakes and (10lb!) cakes—all with real Italian Meringue for frosting, no gritty buttercream for them,” T. Gates Councilor wrote.
Leave a comment on why you voted, or spread the word about the voting on your own Facebook and Twitter. Don't forget you can review all the restaurants in the Stonington Places and Groton Places directories.
You have until Sunday at 5 p.m. to vote, and we’ll announce the winner of the Food Fight on Monday morning.
Thanks again, and happy eating!

My daughter and I are really passionate about cupcakes. We believe our cupcakes are the best in town. We don't only enjoy to bake them, but we have fun visiting cupcakes bakeries. Living in the Mystic area, area we being in all the places mentioned. Blue Squid have the best grilled cheese sandwiches, but not the best cupcakes. Their cupcakes were cold and hard. Our vote will go to Lis Bake shop, they serve freshly bake cupcakes.

Next time we'll have to have an other category, Mayda, for the homebakers. Thanks for voting and sharing your thoughts!

I have to agree with Mayda. When in Mystic Village recently, I tried a Bleu Squid cupcake and it was hard/stale. I had heard people rave about them so was very disappointed. Tried it again a second time and the cake was again hard and cold. I feel they are overrated, I'm sorrry to say. My vote goes to North End, who has the best pastries from here to--well, the North End of Boston! Laura B.
