"A Soldier's Heart" at the Groton Public Library, Trivia and Have Lunch with an Author!

Five things to know on Thursday, August 29.

  1. The National Weather Service forecasts isolated showers and thunderstorms after noon or otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 78 for today and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight with a low around 60 tonight.
  2. Bank Square Books is hosting lunch with an author Friday. A $16 cover charge gets you a signed copy of “I’ll be Seeing You”, a chance to talk to author Suzanne Hayes and lunch catered by Mystic Market. You have to RSVP, which you can do here. If you haven’t read it, “I’ll be Seeing You” is about two women who forge a friendship through correspondence while their husbands are away fighting WWII. Bank Square’s website says, “The friendship forged by their letters allows them to survive the loneliness and uncertainty of waiting on the home front, and gives them the courage to face the battles raging in their very own backyards. Connected across the country by the lifeline of the written word, each woman finds her life profoundly altered by the other's unwavering support.”
  3. Tonight, the Groton Public Library is hosting another Civil War discussion titled, ““Soldier’s Heart”: A Study of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in the American Civil War" from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
  4. There’s trivia tonight at Margarita’s beginning at 9pm. There’s also trivia at the 99 Restaurant around 7 p.m. and at Applebees at 9 p.m.
  5. Visit the Mystic Art Center’s commemorative exhibit, “Mystic as Muse: 100 Years of Inspiration,” which features paintings, prints, drawings, etc., from artists active in the Mystic Arts Association from the late 19th Century to the present day. The MAC is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
