Call to Young Artists: MAC Invites Regional Students to Submit Artwork for Young At Art Exhibition

The Mystic Arts Center (MAC) seeks submissions from regional students 18 and under for their upcoming exhibition Young At Art. The exhibit will showcase the creative work of young people from New London County and Westerly, Rhode Island.

Artwork for submission must be delivered to the MAC on either Sunday February 19th or Monday February 20th from 11 am – 5 pm. Please contact the MAC prior to receiving if you are unable to drop off on those dates.

The MAC encourages schools to enter group projects. Art teachers may consider collaborating with teachers from other subject areas. For those interested in submitting group projects, a description and sample lesson must be submitted to the MAC by February 17, 2012 via mail or email. For complete entry guidelines visit the MACs website http://www.mysticarts.org/exhibitions/2011/2012_yaa_form.pdf.

Artwork will be awarded First Prizes in both 2-D and 3-D categories. Gift certificates towards MAC classes will be awarded in each of the three grade categories, K-4, 5-8, and 9-12. Ribbons and certificates will be awarded for Second Prize, Third Prize, Honorable Mention, Group Project and the Lil Maxwell Award for Creativity in each category.

The Opening Reception will be held on February 25th from 1-3 pm at MAC. Children can also drop into MACs studios during the reception for free art activities.

The exhibit is part of MAC’s goal to broaden students’ perspectives on the creative process and inform the community about how teachers use art to advance learning while bringing families together in a community space.
