GROTON – Join us in celebrating the holiday season. It’s the Fourteenth Annual Groton Holiday Lights Parade. The parade, a major Greater Groton event, is hosted by the Groton Business Association (GBA) of the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce.
The parade is Saturday, December 1 at 5 p.m. The line of march begins at South Road opposite Groton Utilities Operations Center and then continues along Route 1 to the Groton Shopping Plaza at Drozdyk Drive.
Immediately after the parade, Santa Claus will have the honor of lighting the holiday tree on the green at the rear of the Groton Shopping Plaza. Steve Elci and Friends will bring you their own special “Edu-tainment” as part of the post-parade celebration. The group provides an educational kid’s rock and roll show with an interactive presentation.
There will be free photos with Santa Claus, free hot coca and cookies donated by Ella T. Grasso Vocational Technical School; a small gift for kids, donated by Grader Jewelers; and Munchkins and coffee donated by Dunkin Donuts.
There will be cash prizes for the winners of the various float categories. The grand prize is $250 for the Finest Illumination. The prizes for the other categories are: $100 prize for Best Children's Entry; $100 prize for Sounds of the Season; and $100 prize for Most Original.
Judging will take place as participants pass by Chelsea Groton Bank.
