Intergenerational Summer Social Skills Program for Youth with Disabilities Continues to Blossom

Sensations Charitable Foundation is continuing its mission in the Mystic/Groton area through its popular approach to summer programming - bringing seniors and youth together for a magical, effective, and mutually beneficial experience.

Highlighted in Groton Patch last summer in the article by Jessica Hilo, "" - Sensational Synergy for the Summer is growing and sharing the experience with residents at Stoneridge Retirement Community in Mystic this summer.

Youth and seniors will be engaging in activities run by professionals in both the education and therapeutic recreation fields for 6 weeks this summer starting on July 9th.  Activities will include yoga based movement and relaxation, art, music, play, and hiking.  The staff from both Sensations Charitable Foundation and Stoneridge Retirement Community will be discussing ways to bridge the generational gap to maximize the benefit for both the youth and residents.

Youth will be at the center Monday through Wednesday afternoons and then meet at Camp Harkness on Thursday afternoons to take advantage of the beach and playscape.  The afternoon at Camp Harkness encourages families to access a beautiful beach available to all families who have a child (or adult) who have been diagnosed with a disability.

For more information please email us or view the attached flyer. Youth in the program will be engaging in typical summer fun with a level of instruction and support required to help improve the generalizing of social skill lessons taught throughout the school year.  This is a great opportunity for social skill lessons in an extended school year format that schools and parents are looking for during the summer months.
