Employers Invited to Oct. 3 Step Up Conference in Groton

WETHERSFIELD, September 19, 2013 – Southeastern Connecticut employers are invited to attend the state’s Subsidized Training and Employment Program (Step Up) to learn about employer hiring incentives and other opportunities that benefit businesses on Oct. 3, in the John DeLaura Auditorium at the Groton Municipal Building.

Registration starts at 7 a.m. for this 8 to 10:30 a.m. conference hosted by State Sen. Andrew Maynard and State Rep. Elissa Wright, and sponsored by Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, Secretary of State Denise Merrill, the Connecticut Department of Labor, the Department of Economic and Community Development, the state’s Workforce Investment Boards and other community partners.

“We’re inviting every employer in Southeastern Connecticut to join us for this free conference,” noted State Labor Commissioner Sharon M. Palmer.  “You’ll learn all about the opportunities and benefits available to your business through Step Up -- features such as low interest financing under the Small Business Express Program and an easy-to-understand explanation of the new employer health care requirements.”

Topics to be discussed include a variety of incentives available including six month wage reimbursement employment and training grants, low interest financing under the Business Express Program, job expansion tax credits, and a 130 percent reimbursement for new hires.

Two more conferences for business will be held in October from 8 to 10:30 a.m.  The next one will be in Milford on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at the Boys’ and Girls’ Village Auditorium at 528 Wheelers Farm Road; and the third on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Enfield’s American Legion Post 80 Hall, 566 Enfield Street, Enfield.  Employers can register online for any conference by visiting the Department of Labor’s conference website at www.StepCT.com
