A $5,000 community grant to Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center from Hyatt Place Mystic goes toward purchase of Coogan Farm

From a press release:

Hyatt Place Mystic is pleased to announce the awarding of a $5,000 grant to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center to further the organization’s efforts in environmental sustainability/education. The money was used in the purchase of 34 acres of the Coogan Farm off Route 27 last fall. The $2.8 million purchase from the Clara Morgan Coogan Trust was the first step in the nature center's $3.5 million plan to preserve the land and make improvements to turn it into a public park.

The $5,000 grant is one of this year’s 26 awarded to nonprofits nominated by Hyatt hotels in their communities around the world as part of Hyatt Community Grants, a philanthropic program that empowers Hyatt associates to select local nonprofit recipients for charitable donations.

“We are delighted to have strong participation in our Coogan Campaign from our business neighbors,” said Maggie Jones, executive director of the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center. “Through their corporate support, the Hyatt demonstrates to us, area visitors and to the Town of Stonington the value of preserving our community’s unique sense of place. As a nature and heritage park, Coogan Farm provides another reason for visitors to the Mystic area to stay longer.”
