Regardless of whether or not the men and women of Groton American Legion Post 114 were aware that June is National Food Hunger Awareness Month, their food drive to support the Groton Food Pantry was at once a labor of love and a commitment to community.

And if you ask Nikki Sweet, Senior Vice Commander, she’ll tell you that it’s just “Groton once again rising up to the challenge of helping it's own.”

And one of those helping was 15-year-old Tyler Grantham, who "volunteered his time to help us simply because we needed help," Sweet said.

"He's our neighbor. I've not seen a teenager in quite a long time give up his whole weekend to help our a cause like this. The American Legion is presenting him with a Certificate of Appreciation this week," she said.
