Updated July 4 with new and awesome photos from Ken Clark, Melissa Watson and Mace Lewis.

Original Story: July 3

The National Independence Day Parade committee could have picked any one of hundreds of other high school marching bands for the huge National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C. tomorrow, the Fourth of July.

But they chose the Fitch Falcons Marching Band!

As I write this, the 65-member band is on a bus heading to our nation’s Capitol for a trip they will likely remember forever.

“They are very excited,” said band director Andrew Lefebvre from onboard the bus heading south. “It’s thrilling.”

The Falcons will play two patriotic songs with an arrangement created especially for them: The Battle Hymn of the Republic and American Flourish. And Thursday night, they will sit on the lawn of the Capitol Building as part of the PBS Capitol Fourth event featuring the National Symphony and fireworks which will be televised beginning at 8 p.m.

And in addition, some soon-to-be senior band members with parents in the military will participate in a Laying of the Wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

The parade kicks off at 11:45 a.m. at Constitution Avenue and Seventh Street. It does not appear that it’s being televised, but we’re hoping to get pictures sent to us and when we do, we’ll post them, so keep checking back!
