The Groton City Police department announced Tuesday it has selected Groton City Police Youth Officer Bobby Harris as Officer of the Year.

Officer Harris will be honored at the Groton Elks annual Law Enforcement Night on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014.

According to the City's Facebook page, Police Chief Thomas Davoren described Harris as an "extraordinary ambassador for our department and his work with the youth of our community has certainly earned him this recognition."

This summer, Groton Patch caught up with Officer Harris as he was sharing the ins and outs of policing with Parks and Rec campers; he invited kids to check out a police car and see how it operates. He told us then that he "loves working with kids especially to show them that the police are their friends." And that cop car sirens are cool.

Congratulations, Officer Harris. You do us proud.
