Two Groton Couples Welcome New Year's Day Babies

Four Families from New London and Groton each welcome their first child on the first day of the year.

The following is a news release from Lawrence + Memorial Hospital:

There were four New Year’s Day babies born at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital this year, and each also happened to be a first child for the parents.

The first baby, Rhys Victor Devers, arrived at 5:16 a.m., born to Megan and Will Devers of Groton. Rhys weighed in at 7 pounds, 1 ounce and measured 18 inches.

The second baby arrived at 10:49 in the morning — a girl named Trinity. Trinity’s parents, Samantha Spann and Tyler Huff of New London, are proud to report that their daughter was born at 6 pounds, 6 ounces and 19 inches long.

Erin and Bob Lawson of Groton had their first baby at 3:42 p.m., and young Robert Michael “Bobby” Lawson tipped the scales at 8 pounds, 11 ounces, measuring 20 inches.

Shayla Williams of New London gave birth to her first child at 6:57 p.m., and Mariah weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces, measuring 18¾ inches.

The parents of all four children said having a baby on New Year’s Day was special, but what’s more important is that their children are healthy.

Bob Lawson noted that his boy (and the other three infants, too) will “always have a party to go on their birthday.”

Will Devers said the staff in L+M’s labor and delivery unit really helped him get through a milestone day in his life, as he became a dad.

“They answered all our questions,” he said. “Everybody was super-friendly and so helpful.”
