Mystic Schooners Visit Schools To Thank Students For Team Name

Groton and Stonington elementary students were asked to help name the New England Collegiate Baseball League baseball team moving to Mystic this summer.

These four Groton elementary school kids came up with the name Mystic Schooners and the name stuck:

Derek Pelletier, a fifth-grader in Claude Chester; Jahzaiha Williams, a kindergartener in Claude Chester; Chip Kamercia, a fourth-grader in Catherine Kolnaski Magnet School; and, Kylie Heard, a second-grader in Pleasant Valley.

Members of the team visited the students in their class, thanked them for the great name and gave them an autographed baseball, a team hat, and invited them their inaugural season opener on Wednesday, June 15th at . The team's first home game on the baseball field is Friday, June 24th at 6:30 p.m.
