20th Annual Kids Karnival Brings Community Together For Fun and Food

Military and civilian families gathered at the 20th Annual Kids Karnival this past weekend to enjoy a fair atmosphere with more than 20 rides. Carnival-goers also enjoyed food booths, live entertainment and games.

“These kinds of events are community-driven events where the sub base and community can come together for some fun activities,” said Aimee Perazzi, a special event coordinator for the New London Submarine Base Morale, Recreation, & Welfare Department.

The fair enjoyed warm weather with only a few intermittent showers, a welcome change from past carnivals.

“The weather seems to be holding up for us for the most part this year,” said Perazzi.

Families enjoyed the traditional rides and food, as well as entertainment from a variety of local performers including Bob Bloom from Drumming About You!, who provided a hands-on drumming activity for children. Dan Grady entranced children with his interactive puppet show, and a clown told stories and jokes.

The carnival also provided the opportunity for local merchants to show off their wares. The Mojica family sold hair decorations from their business Alexia’s Accessories Bowtique, studio provided karate demonstrations, and local authors including and Constant Waterman signed copies of their latest books, which launched last week.

The three-day event was hosted by the Submarine Base Youth Center, and was open to military personnel as well as the general public. The next scheduled event from the New London Sub Base Morale, Recreation, & Welfare Department is Sub-Fest, which will be held July 1 to 3 at the sub base in Groton.
