Cuba Gooding Jr. Movie ‘Something Whispered’ Begins Filming in Noank

The movie starring Cuba Gooding Jr. was filming at the Noank Shipyard on Thursday.

By most appearances, Thursday seemed like a typical day in Noank. The streets were quiet and it if weren't for the abnormal amount of cars with New York state license plates, it would have been hard to tell a movie starring Cuba Gooding Jr. was filming.

Something Whispered and directed by Peter Cousens, was filming off the waters of the Noank Shipyard on Pearl Street. Michael Gooding is producing the movie, which is filming through November in various Connecticut towns.

Filming in the area will last about six days and some of the cast and crew are reportedly staying at the Mystic Marriott in Groton.

“It’s good for business especially now when the village is quiet,” Andrew Blacker the Manager of Carson's Variety Store in Noank said.

Blacker said a few members of the cast and crew had already been in, including a couple of stuntmen.

“It’s pretty cool,” Blacker said.

Earlier this month a number of southeastern Connecticut locals attended a casting call for the movie at the Garde Arts Center. According to the Associated Press, the story will take place in 1850 and follow a family’s effort to escape slavery along the Underground Railroad. And IMDB describes this film as:

Set in 1850, the story centers on a man named Samuel (Gooding), who attempts to free his family from the brutality of institutionalized slavery, intent on escaping from the tobacco plantation they have been forced to call their home for two generations. Heading north towards Canada, via that network of secret routes and safe houses used by slaves in 19th century USA (aka the Underground Railroad), they are tracked by a group of ruthless hired slave hunters, who constantly threaten Samuel and his family's survival.

At the beginning of this week the cast and crew filmed at North Guilford Congregational Church. Other filming locations in the state include East Haddam, Pomfret and Mystic.
