Acting Opportunity for Teens 14-19!

WHO WE ARE
The Chorus of Stones Theatre Company is run by former Ledyard High School students who are putting on the performance Scapin by Bill Irwin, Mark O'Donnell, and Moliere for Summer 2012. They are run by the act of charity, performing for old folks’ homes and churches, with the possibility of a performance on the sub base and anywhere else our cast has connections to.

WHAT IT IS
This adaptation of Molière's 325-year-old farce Les Fourberies de Scapin follows—with some alterations—the play's original structure. It keeps the play in period setting while adding a late twentieth century spin to the language and action, and borrowing some final lines from Molière's La Contesse D'escarbagnas. In addition is the group’s own flair to the show, bringing our own ideas to life in this classic comedy.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Scapin is a slapstick take on the comic themes of love, money, and mistaken identity all manipulated by the crafty servant, Scapin. Scapin is the sneaky servant of Signor Geronte, who agrees to assist Geronte's son, Leandre and neighboring Signor Argante's son, Octave's, love affairs. Both men have fallen in love with penniless beauties. Scapin and Argante's servant, Sylvestre, deceive their lords to gain money for the young lovers, but go too far when Scapin's desire for revenge gets him in trouble, which causes him to flee for his life. In the end, the lovers are brought together and the families are mended after years of separation. Leading up to the curtain call, the characters participate in a classic chase scene which leads to the marriage of Scapin.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We started out the summer with the original cast of Scapin, but since, have had actors drop the project, be added, be switched around parts and currently, we have four parts available. Five parts we need filled. They’re the roles of the sons and lovers and the servant of one daughter, What we’re looking for are dedicated actors that will join us and stay with us through our shows at the end of August. There will be plenty of time and rehearsals until the show, so there isn’t concern about learning your part. There will be a kind of “audition” process on Monday, July 2 at the Friendship Community Church on 384 Colonel Ledyard Highway in Ledyard, CT at 5pm. There, we will introduce you to the show and to the parts and have readings. We are also in need of backstage hands, so if anyone is interested in organization and keeping queues and props in line, that is appreciated.

WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT
To give you an idea of what we’re looking for in commitment: We generally have rehearsals on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at the Friendship Community Church at 5pm and are usually out at 7pm, unless we’re on a roll with what we’re doing. We may add rehearsals as needed, but will always let you know in advance. Our current performance dates are August 21st, and 24th, with one in progress for July 30th or 31st, and at least two more following. We take your vacation time in to consideration for rehearsal dates, but obviously, you need to be available for those two and potential third performance dates.

WHAT WE'RE LIKE
We have four people from the original production doing this project, so if you ever need help with a scene, we know this play inside out and upside down. We are also open to suggestions and ideas and additions for the show if it works. We’re a flexible group of people who will work with you, but you need to work with us when we say we need you. This is a serious group, so we request you share in our dedication.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
Show up at our rehearsal tonight and we'll give you more information and hopefully start a bond you won't soon forget! (Parents are welcome to tag along if they desire) If you want more information or directions, contact Tori Gordon at the resources below. See you there!
