Geography of the Human Spirit: A Multi-Media Presentation by Todd Gipstien

Todd Gipstein will narrate a mixed-media presentation, Geography of the Human Spirit, at the Groton Public Library on Wednesday, February 1 at 7 p.m.  Gipstein weaves together stories and observations drawn from 40 years of travel and photography, much of it for National Geographic

 The one hour presentation touches on a wide range of subjects, including an old train station, everyday moments, the Korean War Memorial, the 60s, JFK and the space program, the Vietnam War Memorial, China, Greece, the Boston Marathon, friendship, 9/11, the Titanic, old photographs, found art on city walls, humor, portraits of people around the world, the Civil Rights Movement, and world cultures. Along the way, Todd reflects on the art of photography and the meaning of what he has experienced and photographed. 

Gipstein has been working as a photographer, writer, producer and lecturer for almost 40 years. He studied writing and film at Harvard University and has worked for Time-Life Multi-Media and the National Geographic Society.Gipstein’s productions have won more than 40 gold awards in media festivals. His work has also garnered a dozen grand-prizes in international competitions. He is a member of the Association for Multi-Media International's Producers' Hall of Fame, and he has also received several lifetime achievement awards. In 2005, Gipstein moved to Groton, Connecticut. Todd continues to photograph on contract for National Geographic
