Because It's No Fun To Stay Home All Weekend

Feeling like the summer just flew by? Clinging to those flip flops and suntan lotion? Cringing when you see commercials for football season? Yeah, we know the feeling. So let’s make the most of these dog days of summer and fit as much summery goodness into this weekend as possible. Check out our picks for the weekend!

1. BROOKLYN FAIR

WHERE/WHEN: Fair opens on Thursday at 4 p.m. and Friday through Sunday at 8 a.m. and stays open each night until 11 p.m. Fairgrounds address is 15 Fairgrounds Road in Brooklyn.

WHY GO: It’s the oldest agricultural fair in the country!

PRICING: Admission for adults and seniors is $10 each. Kids up to 12 are free. Seniors pay $6 on Friday only. Parking is $5.

2. LIVE MUSIC AT THE VINEYARD

WHERE/WHEN: Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Stonington’s Saltwater Farm Vineyard in the tasting room.

WHY GO: Catch acoustic duo Wilson Kane on Thursday and singer-guitarist T-Ray on Sunday.

PRICING: No cover charge.

3. CHESTER FAIR

WHERE/WHEN: Friday from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Chester Fairgrounds on Kirtland Terrace.

WHY GO: Tons of live entertainment, livestock, rides and fair fun!

PRICING: Admission is $8 for adults and kids 12 and under are free. On Saturday and Sunday only, seniors pay only $6 admission. Three days passes are $21 each. Parking is free. Ride wristbands available Saturday and Sunday.

4. TOUR THE ARBORETUM

WHERE/WHEN: Sundays through Oct. 30 at New London’s Connecticut College Arboretum at 2 p.m.

WHY GO: First Sundays of the month cover the Campus Collection, second Sundays focus on the Caroline Black Garden and the remaining Sundays cover the Native Plant collection.

PRICING: Tours are free and open to the public.

WHERE/WHEN: Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mystic Seaport.

WHY GO: Bruce Foulke provides the music for this final summer Sunday evening!
