Local Artists Display Work At Historic Noank Foundry

A Memorial Day Sale Kicks Off A Series of Events at the Noank Foundry Artist Studios

Local artists gathered Saturday afternoon for a Memorial Day sale at the historic . The sale included sculpture, photography, jewelry, and paintings.

“Half of the reasoning behind having an event like this was simply to open up this building – which itself is an icon – to the public. The other half was to have an invitational art show including local artists,” says Clint Wright, owner of the Noank Foundry Artist Studios and a blacksmith by trade.

Silversmith Mary Anne Sherman displayed jewelry she made at the foundry at the event, and enjoyed the chance to connect with other local artists.

“It’s definitely a very creative atmosphere,” she says. “I like that it’s so mixed here, there’s a little bit of everything including sculpture, baked goods, and even books.”

The Foundry has been an artist studio for about three years, and now has approximately 10 regular artists who use the space to create their art.

The Memorial Day sale was only the first of several scheduled events throughout the year at the foundry.

"This is the first time we've ever had a calendar of events. We decided that this year we'd put our heads together and come up with some dates so that we can extend ourselves to the community," says Robin Thomas, who makes jewelry from her own homemade glass beads.
