Local Photography Group Exhibits Works at the Mystic & Noank Library

The Mystic Photography Group exhibit is on display at the library throughout the month of February.

Locals gathered at the Mystic & Noank Library Wednesday for the opening reception of an exhibit by the Mystic Photography Group.

The exhibit in the Ames Room, features about 30 photographs many of them taken locally but some taken as far away as Italy. Local residents that belong to the Mystic Photography Group took all of the photographs.

Tom Norris began the group five years ago as a way to improve his knowledge of photography.

“I’ve had a lifelong interest in photography and had cameras throughout my life,” Norris said.

The six members of the group include photographers of different skill levels many of them with full-time jobs that have nothing to do with photography. The group meets once a month and spends time going over different creative techniques, discussing any problems anyone may have encountered and leaves with an assignment for the next month.

New member Karen Martino met Norris and his wife at the Mystic Seaport during the summer. Both Martino and Norris were holding lots of different photography equipment and Norris invited Martino to join the group.

“It lets me use my creative skills,” Martino, who works for the State of Rhode Island said about the group.

This is the third year the library has hosted an exhibit by the Mystic Photography Group. The free exhibit is open during normal library hours throughout the month of February.
