This Weekend: Groton Rotary Wine Tasting and Silent Auction, Charles W. Morgan Festivities

Don't miss the Native American Heritage Celebration, author events at Waterford Library, Australian Pink Floyd and Oktoberfest at the Elks.

Well, like it or not, we’ve officially had a real taste of winter. That cold weather is coming—along with some snowed-in evenings, lots of shoveling and some yummy hot cocoa. So here’s our warning to start using your weekends wisely. We’ve put together a lineup of events, and we fully expect you to get out and attend some! Here’s what’s going on this weekend:

WHERE/WHEN: Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge on Washington St.

WHY GO: Arrive hungry and leave happy—kielbasa, knockwurst, sauerkraut, German potato salad.

PRICING: Tickets are $5 per person.

WHERE/WHEN: Friday from 6:30 to 9:30 at the Mystic Marriott Grand Ballroom.

WHY GO: Wine plus good company equals good times.

PRICING: Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door.

WHERE/WHEN: The show is Friday at 8 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

WHY GO: They’ve sold more than 3 million tickets around the world—so you know they’re good.

PRICING: Tickets are $29.50 and $39.50.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at Rainmaker Square.

WHY GO: Native American dance and village displays, a guest speaker and a dance performance! Plus, Dream Card holders get buy-one-get-one-free admission to the Mashantucket Pequot Museum throughout November.

PRICING: Free.

AUTHOR EVENTS AT THE WATERFORD PUBLIC LIBRARY

WHERE/WHEN: Authors from 2 to 4 p.m. On will hold a talk from 2 to 4 p.m.

WHY GO: Your teens—especially any who aspire to write—will love Saturday’s panel and workshop. Donald Anderson Jr. will share some war stories worthy of your Sunday afternoon.

PRICING: Events are free. A selection of books will be available for purchase and signing.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday at Mystic Seaport.

WHY GO: There’s a full day’s worth of events! Keynote address is at 1 p.m. Chowder, demonstrations, tours and more will run throughout the day.

PRICING: Admission to Mystic Seaport is free all day Saturday.

APPRAISAL DAY AT MYSTIC SEAPORT: If you have some possible treasures, bring them down for appraisal on Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fee for three hand-carried items is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.

: Itching to start your holiday shopping? Sale runs on Saturday from 10 to 6 p.m.

LANTERN LIGHTING ALONG THE RIVER: You won’t want to miss seeing the Mystic River lit by 1,000 lanterns on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

: Kick off the season right by helping others! There are four convenient drop-off locations for the Old Mystic Fire Department’s annual drive.
