Aquarium Announces Record Number Of April Vacation Visitors

Close to 70,000 people dropped by the Mystic Aquarium during two-week period this month

A record number of visitors stopped by during April's two-week vacation period, the aquarium announced.

According to the press release, about 70,000 people were admitted to the Mystic Aquarium during the break, which is about one-tenth of the aquarium's annual attendance.

The aquarium's new Titanic exhibit surely boosted attendance numbers, as the 100th anniversary exhibit opened earlier this month on April 12.

“These are encouraging numbers for April, and appear to validate the significant investment Sea Research Foundation and its partners are making to bring visitors to Mystic," Dr. Stephen Coan, President and CEO of the Sea Research Foundation said in the release.

"Clearly, when the numbers at Mystic Aquarium are strong, there is tangible economic benefit to local restaurants, hotels and shopping venues. Our expectation is that our institutional efforts will dovetail with the State of Connecticut’s forthcoming tourism marketing campaign and grow visitation to the Mystic region and the state.”
