Carson's Variety Store Wins Best Pancakes Contest

Store wins Groton Patch best pancake poll with 52 of 118 votes, or 44 percent.

is the winner of the "best pancakes in Groton" poll on Groton Patch last week.

The store received 52 of the 118 votes, or 44 percent. Buford's Family Restaurant came in second, with 37 votes, or 31 percent.

in its breakfast, lunch and to go menus, and dates back to 1907.

Genevieve Carson established the business and it had three locations. Around 1918, she moved it to its current spot in the Harris-Fowler Cottage.  It was in the adjacent house on the property first, then the street front.

Dave Blacker, the current owner, remodeled the building in 1995.

The store is perhaps best known for its penny candy and ice cream, and at one time or another had a soda fountain, meals and a newsstand.
