Chamber Business of the Month: Noank Community Market

This Saturday May 4 stop by and celebrate Noank Community Market's first anniversary.

Each month, the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce highlights a member business deserving of special recognition, the Business of the Month award.   For May, it’s Noank Community Market.

In April, the Chamber received nominations from myriad businesses for the honor. The criteria included outstanding community involvement, major improvements, achievements and overall success.

“Noank Community Market truly excels in all these categories,” a chamber statement read.

The Noank Community Market opened a year ago this month as a cooperatively owned community market. Members pay an annual fee and then not only receive discounts on purchases of foods and all the very cool sundry items the market sells (Dr. Bonner’s is a favorite of mine!) but become a member of the cooperative; a voice in the business.

The market is located at 17 Pearl Street in Noank in a 1907 storefront. Patch stopped by Tuesday, a gorgeous day in Noank, to check out its offerings: sandwiches, pizza, a deli, prepared foods, organic and reasonably-priced produce, a bakery and grocery section, locally-grown products, organic and gluten-free products, Wi-Fi, community and conversation.
“The name certainly says it all; it’s all about community at Noank Community Market. The time and dedication taken to evolve the business into what it is today is truly worth noting and celebrating. This classic village market is everything you’ve come to know and love. It even has a generator in case of inclement weather so that residents can charge their phones and get hot soup. Noank Community Market is truly a community-based business. Such an environment that promotes community spirit and commerce deserves recognition, and for that we are proud to honor the entire Noank Community Market team. This Saturday May 4 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., the market celebrates its one-year anniversary with a hullabaloo of awesomeness: local vendors, special tastings, free catering samples, kids gardening activities and more!
