Cool for School: Gabe’s Barber Shop Gives Free Haircuts for Ledyard Students

The Ledyard Police Union donated money for students to get free haircuts at Gabe's Barber Shop in Groton and Mirror Image in Gales Ferry.

The buzz of hair clippers at Gabe’s Barber Shop flowed continuously Friday as regulars and new customers streamed in for their free “back to school” hair cuts offered by the Ledyard Police Union.

Owner Gabe Muntimuri said he received $500 from the Ledyard Police Union, which will go toward hair cuts for Ledyard students in the next three business days. Muntimuri said  he had given seven haircuts before noon on Friday and if the money doesn’t cover all the cuts needed in the next couple days, he’ll match the rest.

The police union also donated  money to Mirror Image in Gales Ferry for girls’  haircuts, which were given out from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday.
