Electric Boat Will Hire Hundreds Through 2020

The company president spoke Tuesday at the annual legislative breakfast at the Mystic Marriott in Groton.

Groton's Electric Boat plans to hire 500 employees yearly, and continue hiring through 2020, President Kevin Poitras told an audience at the company's annual legislative breakfast Tuesday, The Bulletin reported.

Poitras said cuts in federal defense spending could change that, but he anticipated 300 people would be hired in engineering and design, and 100 would be hired in trades like welding, the newspaper reported.

“Electric Boat is looking to the future,” the paper quoted Poitras as saying. “As you know, there’s much uncertainty in federal spending.”

announced that John P. Casey will succeed Phebe N. Novakovic as executive vice president of the corporation’s Marine Systems group.

Poitras, the company's former senior vice president of engineering, design and business development, took over for former president John Casey on May 2, 2012.
