Groton Businesses Invited to Step Up Employer Conference

People at the conference will talk about the incentives and benefits available to small business owners.

Southeastern Connecticut employers are invited to attend the state’s Subsidized Training and Employment Program (StepUp) to learn about a variety of employer hiring incentives and opportunities designed to benefit and grow businesses on Oct. 3, in the John DeLaura Auditorium, Groton Municipal Building, 295 Meridian Street in Groton.

Registration starts at 7 a.m. for this 8 to 10:30 a.m. conference with light refreshments hosted by State Sen. Andrew Maynard and State Rep. Elissa Wright, and sponsored by Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, Secretary of State Denise Merrill, Connecticut Department of Labor, Department of Economic and Community Development, the state’s Workforce Investment Boards and other community partners.

Topics to be discussed include a variety of state and federal incentives available, six month wage reimbursements and employment and training grants for employing unemployed job seekers, low interest financing under the Business Express Program, job expansion tax credits, tax incentives for equipment purchases and the 130 percent reimbursement for new hires.

“A number of small business owners have already signed up for this free information conference and we are hoping every employer interested in knowing more about the many opportunities and benefits available in our state, such as wage incentives and low interest financing, will be able to attend,” said State Labor Commissioner Sharon M. Palmer.

Two more conferences for businesses will be held in October from 8 to 10:30 a.m.  The next one will be in Milford on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at the Boys’ and Girls’ Village Auditorium at 528 Wheelers Farm Road; and the third on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Enfield’s American Legion Post 80 Hall, 566 Enfield Street, Enfield.
