Grumpy Cat is No Match for Mystic’s Sassy Cat Spa

Can't stay grumpy after a trip to Sassy Cat Spa

Amy Rubin stepped into the scene in Mystic with her now-beloved and popular barbershop, the Salty Dog, which offers $18 haircuts, warm lathered shaves with a straight razor and shoe shines. Her kind, easy laugh and inherent talent garnered quite a following and as we are about to witness, that was only the beginning.

“It’s a huge work in progress,” she says of her new business the Sassy Cat Spa, which is adjacent to the Salty Dog in the same building. Upon first glance, the Sassy Cat will deliver the same level of reasonably priced beauty essentials such as manicures, pedicures and facials, but the real work takes place upstairs.

The nail techs downstairs can provide all the latest trends in nail fashions and upstairs, masseuses are ready to loosen stressed and tight muscles. They offer Thai massage, deep tissue, Swedish, sports massage and more.

“I know there’s no real place to get a manicure or spa pedicure in Mystic...or a massage, said Rubin. “I want to keep everything reasonably priced too.”

Massages will range in price but for the month of August, Rubin says she’s only charging $50.

The other professionals upstairs will provide healing services that a massage, a manicure or a haircut couldn’t fix.

“Mostly it’s a healing center all around and downstairs is the phoofy part where we make you look pretty,” she said.

Rubin said the suite of rooms above the nail service will be used to deliver essential oil healing, belief clearing, helping people identify and clear stress and balance energy fields, aura reading and repair, chakras, healing touch, Reiki and acupuncture.

Through her own experience and from interactions with customers, Rubin got the sense that lots of people need a space to find emotional and spiritual well being.

“We can make you look pretty and we can make you feel pretty,” she said.

Sassy Cat Spa is located in the same building as Salty Dog Barber Shop at 3 Water Street in downtown Mystic. Customers can make appointments for all services through the Salty Dog’s website or call 860-415-4712.
