New Moe's Southwest Grill Raises $2,000 for Navy Marine Corps Relief Society

Franchise owner Matt Rusconi: "Giving back to the community ... is simply a part of our operations model."

The new Moe's Southwest Grill at the Groton Square Shopping Plaza on Route 12 has been open less than a week, and it's already giving back to the community.

As part of its grand opening, Moe's raised $700 for the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society — 15% of its opening day sales — and franchise partner Matt Rusconi added $300. Rusconi matched the amount with another $1,000 from his Waterford location for a $2,000 donation, which he will be presenting to the Navy today at 2 p.m.

The Navy Marine Corps Relief Society provides financial, educational and other types of assistance to members of the U.S. Naval Services. Rusconi and partner David Vorchheimer run six Moe's locations in Connecticut.

“We hope to experience the same warm reception at Groton that we received at our Waterford location,” Rusconi said in a press release. “Giving back to the community, who we truly enjoy partnering with, is simply part of our operations model.”

Moe's based in Atlanta, serves fresh, made-to-order Southwest fare, and feature a state-of-the-art Coca-Cola Freestyle soda fountain that dispenses more than 100 regular and low-calorie beverage brands. The Groton location will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
