Pfizer Puts Out Request For Demolition Contractors

But company says no decision has been made yet on Groton buildings

Pfizer notified Groton officials within the last two weeks that it has sent out a request for proposals seeking demolition contractors for buildings on the Groton campus.

Town Manager Mark Oefinger said the company told him not to read anything into it, and that it was being done to stay the course in the event demolition is chosen.

Pfizer did not return an e-mail seeking comment on Friday.

The Town Council is expected to receive an update on the latest with Pfizer during its Committee of the Whole meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Town Hall Annex.

In August 2011, the company warned that Building 118 - the sprawling seven-building complex on Eastern Point Road - must be sold by year's end or it would be torn down.

In an e-mail on Dec. 28, Pfizer spokeswoman Joan Campion said the company would make a decision “in the near future” about the fate of Building 118, but had made no decision yet.

but there’s been no word since then about additional interest.
