There was plenty of fresh food, wine and high spirits in downtown Mystic Saturday as the community marked the official grand opening of the Oyster Club with a .

Mystic’s newest restaurant located at 13 Water St., opened several weeks ago, and if the number of people who attended Saturday’s celebration is any indication, the restaurant has quickly become a local favorite.

Co-owner and manager Stonington’s Dan Mesier, co-owner Jason Steadman and Executive Chef James Wayman wanted to create a restaurant that combines    from nearby coastal waters with produce and meats sourced from local farms.”

In a climate of economic uncertainty, local leaders including Congressman Joe Courtney, state Senator Andy Maynard, state Rep. Elissa Wright and President Tricia Cunningham praised Mesier for taking on the risk of opening a new business.

Mesier, however, was quick to thank the community for making his dream of opening a restaurant in the area a reality.

“It’s about the people who have believed in this project and have taken the time to support me,” Mesier said.
