Six Months After Opening, Frogeez Will Expand

The Groton frozen yogurt shop plans to open a store in Crystal Mall in November, and add three other locations by the summer of 2013.

Six months after quitting a steady job to open a frozen yogurt store in Groton, Greg Kosma is expanding into the Crystal Mall in Waterford and hopes to have three other locations by the summer.

Kosma a self-serve frozen yogurt store across from the Big Y.  He said he knew he was taking a chance.

It’s gone better than he could have hoped. The store is drawing customers from as far away as Old Lyme, Plainfield and Westerly, R.I.

"It's (been) phenomenal," he said. A few months after opening, Kosma said he began getting requests for a location on the other side of the Gold Star Bridge.

The Frogeez at Crystal Mall will open on the second floor where Haagen-Dazs used to be, near Macy's. Construction on the store is progressing and Kosma hopes to open the first week in November.

He had ten employees this past summer, and is accepting applications. He said he is also considering other locations in Eastern Connecticut, but cannot discuss the details. He hopes to open three more stores by the spring or summer of 2013.

Customers who stopped at Frogeez Monday said they like the variety of flavors and toppings. The favorite now is pumpkin; it was sold out but will be back Wednesday.

“In the summer, I was coming at least once a week," said Kristine Fife, of Taftville.

Brenda Czikowsky, of Griswold, said she’s only been twice, but she loved the pumpkin. She bought coconut Monday.

“It tastes delicious and it’s not as fattening as ice cream,” she said.  “And you can put whatever you want on it.”
