Vacancy Vision: 44 West Main Street in Mystic

What would you like to see move into this empty spot?

The retail space at 44 West Main Street in Mystic has sat empty ever since glass blower Jeffrey P'an moved out this winter. The building next to Bartleby's Cafe in downtown Mystic seems to be a prime location for a business. And a sign out front says retail space to rent with the telephone number to Jerome Properties.

One idea, that I personally love is a creperie. But what to you think? Do you have an idea for what would be the perfect business or enterprise to occupy the empty spot at 44 West Main Street in Mystic?

I think it would be great to have a 'Mystic General Store' located downtown, (maybe a "sister" store to the Old Mystic General Store that is in Old Mystic, CT). I would also like to see a specialty wine/cheese/bread gift shop.

I like the idea of a general store/specialty store in that location. There is a trend toward locally sourced foods at Mystic's restaurants, maybe this store could offer an extension of that. Both locals and tourists could enjoy a source of responsibly produced, quality goods with a sense of place, such as cheeses, wines, breads, honey, soaps, maple syrups, candies, seasonal fruits, and artisanal goods.

Bree, great idea! Ask the people! I would love a liquor store. I would also love a shoe store, mens, childrens, womans shoes would be awesome! What about a small place to show movies, play darts, pool tables, geared towards all ages? Arcade of sorts. I strongly oppose any chains or box stores, they have no personality and have products made overseas. It is a prime location, however the Phase Two of water street......and the green wall construction, and the bridge construction going till mid April......it might be a while until Main St. Is filled. Please go shop the shops that are there. I love each one, each owner. Mystic Disc, Tidal River, Peppergrass and Tulip, Stonewear, Mystic Army Navy, Radio Waves, Company of Craftsmen, the Mixed Bag, the Green Elephant, the Fudge shop, the Framers, Mystic Florist, Envy, The spice shop, to name a few.

I also would live to have a shoe store with men, women's and children's shoes. We definitely need a store like this in town.

Mary, don't forget about Mystic Sweets! Great chocolates, open late, reasonable prices, and locally owned. A General Store would be great.....somewhere with postcards. It's Crazy that the only place to buy a postcard in such a tourist driven area is Mystic Mobile!
