Team at Octagon Wins Old Saybrook Chili Festival

GROTON, CT (March 6, 2014) – The team at Octagon, the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa’s renowned steakhouse, is proud to announce their big win at the Old Saybrook Chili Festival held on March 1, 2014. Chefs from across Connecticut participated in the annual event, hoping to be honored with the prize of a donation to the charity of their choice. Octagon took first place with their smoky, sweet and spicy “Phoenix Chili”, created by Octagon Chef Antone Andrews, and chose the March of Dimes to receive a donation in honor of the team’s festival win.

This year, more than 25 chefs entered the competition. Taste-testers purchased ballots to use for voting for their favorite chili, after testing no fewer than 10 different options. All proceeds from the sale of the ballots benefitted the C.W. Hunter Scholarship Fund. In 2013, the Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce was able to donate eight $1,000 scholarships to local graduating students.

“We are confident in our chili and proud of our team. We had a great day celebrating the culinary art of chili and most importantly, we were able to earn a significant donation for the March of Dimes,” commented Paul Krawic, Executive Chef for Octagon. “Thank you to everyone who voted for us.
