Ledge Light Health District- Our First Blog Post!

Between Stand Against Racism Day, the Prescription Drug Take-Back and preparing to move to a new office, your local health department has had an eventful week!

Hello, Groton Patch readers!

Welcome to Ledge Light Health District's new blog! It's been a busy week for us at the District.

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of participating in the YWCA's Stand Against Racism Day. Ledge Light staff members and volunteers went to five local high schools throughout the District during lunch waves to collect pledges from students, teachers and school staff to stand against racism.

In total, we received over 1,000 pledges between Fitch High School, Grasso Tech, Ledyard High School, New London High School and Waterford High School!

We would like to thank the schools for participating in this event with us.

On Saturday, we held a Prescription Drug Take-Back event in partnership with Triad, the Groton Senior Center and the Town of Groton Police Department. About 50 people showed up and dropped off nearly 500 pounds of expired and unwanted prescription drugs. The drugs were picked up by the Drug Enforcement Administration and incinerated.

Did you attend the Prescription Drug Take-Back? If so, please feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts on the event. Why is it important to you to dispose of prescription drugs properly?

This week, we have begun packing and preparing to move to our new office at 216 Broad Street in New London. We will begin operating out of the new office on Monday, May 16. We would like to note that our phone and computer communications will be down on Friday, May 13 as we move our equipment.

Have any questions about any of our upcoming events, programs or public health in general? Feel free to give us a call at (860) 448-4882 or send an email to cnorton@ledgelighthd.org and your question will be forwarded to the correct expert.

Stay tuned for more news from your local health department!
