Artistic Synergy

After my daughter took about 3 hours in the bathroom (which little girls often do) changing into her dance gear, she came and sat down beside me in the lobby. One by one the older girls, taking class upstairs, came bursting through the door. She sat there next to me, just watching them, looking at me after every one walked by.

I’ve seen that look before… that look of, “i want to be her.”

After about 5 minutes some of the girls came down to talk to Desiree at the front desk, and as they were talking they began to stretch and warm up for class. My little bunhead was glued to their legs in amazement… She cocked her head and I saw a little foot start to inch out in front from under the chair.. A tiny voice in my ear whispered, “Mom, they’re doing their splits all the way to the ground!” They finished talking and went back upstairs and that little foot slid a little further, now that there were no eyes watching… She got down to do her split (about a foot off the ground) and turned her head to me,”Look Mom, I can go further!”

Even outside the classroom, there is learning going on. It’s kind of like those moving sidewalks you see in the airport… once you step on one, your momentum plus that of the moving sidewalk, doubles your pace. Kind of like the ‘artistic synergy’ present at Dance Palace, School of Mystic Ballet.  When you combine the education in the classroom with the energy being passed from the olden ones to the little ones, you get an ideal environment for achieving artistic excellence.
