Local Matters of Interest

Local projects and events in Groton and Mystic areas.....

Here are some items of interest for local Groton Area citizens & taxpayers:

1) POQUONNOCK BRIDGE - A few days ago, I wrote about an attempt by at least one outgoing Director of the PB Fire DISTRICT to (1) get himself back on the Board and, at the same time, (2) try to arrange consolidation of the Fire Department into the Town of Groton. Apparently, these attempts have both failed. However, there is a regular meeting of the PBFDistrict on Thursday, July 12 at 7PM at the PB Fort Hill Firehouse. Local citizens should attend to find out what the newly elected Board is planning for the future.

2) GROTON TOWN - ALL DISTRICTS - There is a special public meeting being held at 7:30 PM on Tuesday July 10th at the Town Hall Annex on GLP Road. The Town Council is seeking public input on the subject of the proposed multi-million dollar bonding plan for major road maintenance projects in Groton. Be prepared to speak for up to 3 minutes on your point of view. Do we need to spend this amount of money? And, yes, our taxes will go up during the bonding period.

3) MYSTIC - "Streetscape Phase II" covering Water Street is now up for public review and plans can be seen at the Town Hall Annex until Friday July 13th. The proposed inprovements will be partially funded by the Feds, leaving us taxpayers with a $240K portion of expense. Again, do we need to spend this amount of money? Write or E-mail your Council and RTM representatives after you look at the plans...

4) MYSTIC - NOANK - The large exposed pipes on a portion of Rt 215 between the two districts are to act as a sewer bypass while repairs are made to the existing sewer pipes.

5) NOANK - A reminder that hydrants will be flushed from July 9th - July 13th.

6) NOANK and nearby areas - A reminder that the Noank Community Market and the Noank Liquor Store are open every day, including weekends and holidays, for the entire summer. You do not need to be members of the Community Market in order to shop there.
