     Noank CellPhone Tower Voted Down  

At a meeting 3/27/14 at the Noank Firehouse, which included approximately 100 residents, the Noank Fire District Executive Committee called for a public vote on whether to proceed with a lease of a 60' x 60' site to a Cellphone Tower contractor to erect a 100' single mast tower on the Fire District property off Brook Street. The site was the previous location of the Noank Water Tower.  

The majority of residents present were from a luxury housing development near the proposed site off Groton Long Point Road. There were only a few residents from the village area that was most in need of improved cellphone service.

The result was that by an estimated 3 to 1 margin, the lease proposal was voted down.  

 The meeting was also recorded by Fox TV channel 6, with a short clip shown on the 11 PM News . One of the station commentators summarized the results by saying "Not In My Backyard."
