Swimmers enjoyed a perfect summer day at Esker Point Beach in Groton Thursday, but temperatures and humidity were expected to rise this weekend across the region.

The Weather Service forecast an air quality index for Groton today that may be unhealthy for sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease, older adults and children. Temperatures were expected to cool off some tonight.

Carolyn Schulz, said she'll be building a sailboat this weekend with her husband, son and daughter-in-law at the wooden boat show in Mystic.

"I'm hoping the breeze off the water will keep us cool under the tent," she said.
