Dail Five: The School Board, A Program Cancellation And A Swearing In Ceremony

Five Things To Know Monday, July 30

1.  Today is Monday, July 30.  The National Weather Service predicts partly sunny skies, a high temperature of 79 degrees and a low of 62 tonight.

2.  The Groton Board of Education's Committee of the Whole will meet at 6 p.m. today in the school administration building to discuss topics including the curriculums for economics, psychology and 10th grade English. The school board will also talk about reorganizing the high school administration.

3.  Lawrence & Memorial Hospital will stop providing its therapeutic exercise program at the Groton Senior Center as of Sept. 1. In a July 9 letter to the center, the hospital said it has seen a steady decline in enrollment while the cost of providing the program has continued to increase. The last official date for the fitness program is Aug. 31.

4.  The will hold a promotion and swearing in ceremony at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Groton Senior Center. The department will promote or swear in the following people: Steven Sinagra to Captain; Jeffrey Scribner to Lieutenant; Douglas Hoffman, Kelly Crandall and Brian Dawson to Sergeant; and Heather McClelland and Philip Fazzino to patrol officer.
