Daily Five: Check Out The Library This Weekend

Five Things To Know, Friday, Feb. 3.

1.  Today is Friday, Feb. 3.  The National Weather Service forecasts sunny skies, a high temperature of 42 degrees and a wind of 9 to 13 mph. Tonight, clouds will increase and the low will fall to 27 degrees.

2.  About 25 people attended the first of Wednesday. The topic was sports and activities, and the group talked about ways to offer the best options for students attending two middle schools next year. One concern was the possibility that more students would have to complete for fewer slots on the sports teams. The possibility of intramural sports was one suggestion to address this. The school department will post summaries of the public discussions about middle schools on its website shortly, with an area for residents to add their thoughts and ideas.

3.  Bill Memorial Library is holding its first annual Events include a library scavenger hunt and drop-in crafts from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., and the library is hosting family story time at 1 p.m. City of Groton Mayor Marian Galbraith and Groton Town Mayor Heather Bond-Somers will be reading, with hot cocoa and cookies served after. 4.  Children First Groton is offering an event for children with autism and their families, at 2 p.m. on Saturday at in Groton. The event will offer hands-on, sensory-based activities for the kids, provided by volunteers and early childhood teachers, pampering for the grownups by massage and salon volunteers, stress-relieving tips from a local yoga instructor, treat bags from and the chance to meet with other families. 5.  Mystic Seaport is celebrating “Winter’s Aweigh”, on Saturday, Feb. 18, if you’re looking for something fun to do with the kids later this month. Children and teenagers (ages 17 and under) get free admission. Events will include ice sculpting demonstrations, old-fashioned games on the village green, free horse and carriage rides, music performances, storytelling and demonstrations by the Newfoundland Dog Club of New England. The museum will offer free youth admission through Sunday, Feb. 26.  The museum is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
