Daily Five: A Book Sale and the Old Mystic Fire Department

Five Things To Know, Wednesday, Oct. 10

1.  Today is Wednesday, Oct. 10. The National Weather Service predicts cloudy skies, a high temperature of 64 degrees and a slight chance of showers after 3 p.m. The low will drop to 48 degrees tonight.

2.  Bill Memorial Library in Groton City will hold its annual library book sale from noon until 4 p.m. on Oct. 19 and from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Oct. 20.  The sale will include best sellers, cookbooks, non-fiction, children’s books, paperbacks and DVDs. For more information, call (860) 445-0392.

3.  The Old Mystic Fire Department will celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Reliance Fire Co. No. 1. From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday at the station at 21 N. Stonington Road. The event will include fire safety demonstrations, fire prevention education and a food and toy drive.

4.  The Groton Chapter of Fresh Connections, a professional women’s networking organization, will gather at 8:45 a.m. today at Webster Bank in Groton. The event is free and provides an opportunity to meet other businesswomen and share ideas. For more information about Fresh Connections, visit the website at www.freshconnectionsforwomen.org.

5.  Riverfront Children’s Center will hold its 7th annual Silent Auction and Raffle from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the Shennecossett Yacht Club. The benefit supports scholarships for children. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door, and the event includes a champagne and wine bar and desserts.
