Daily Five: School Board Officers and The Annual Holiday Lights Parade

Five Things To Know, Wednesday, Nov. 14

1.  Today is Wednesday, Nov. 14. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies and a high temperature of 50 degrees. The low will fall to 35 degrees tonight.

2.  The Groton Board of Education on Tuesday re-elected Kirsten Hoyt as chairwoman of the board and Elizabeth Gianacoplos as vice chair. Both votes were unanimous.

3.  Noank Baptist Church will hold its 67th Annual Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday at the church at 18 Cathedral Heights in Noank. The event features a silent auction and holiday tables including baked goods, knitted items, dried flowers, cider and a kiddy corner. The event will also offer an a la carte lunch from 11:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. or until supplies last.

4.  The deadline to file an application for 14th Annual Holiday Lights Parade is Friday. The parade is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Dec. 1. To apply for a spot in the parade, you may fill out an application at www.grotonbiz.com or call (860) 536-5680 to get a hard copy of the form. The Groton Business Association is welcoming floats from businesses, organizations and clubs, as well as bands and choral groups.

5.  Noank Community Market has changed its hours for fall as of this week. Since business tends to be quieter when the weather cools, the store hours are now 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. seven days a week. The market still offers hot coffee and breakfast snacks in the morning, as well as grab-and-go dinners. Pizza is also available; the market asks that you order before 6:30 p.m.
