Daily Five: A Contract For EB And Middle School Consolidation

Five Things To Know Thursday, Nov. 10

1.  Today is Thursday, Nov. 10.  The National Weather Service predicts rain, mainly after 11 a.m., and a high temperature of 62 degrees. The low will fall to 45 degrees tonight.

2.  The U.S. Navy has awarded a $21.1 million contract to Electric Boat to perform reactor-plant services for nuclear submarines. If all options are paid for, the contract value could reach $121.2 million through 2016, according to a news release from the U.S. Congress. “This latest contract is very good news for our region, its economy and the men and women of Electric Boat,” Congressman Joe Courtney said in a prepared statement.

3.  The Groton Board of Education holds the second of three community discussion forums on middle school consolidation at 6:30 p.m. today at West Side Middle School. The goal of the brainstorming sessions is to learn about residents' concerns about closing a school. The information will be used to create a survey which will be made available townwide.

5.  As a reminder, Ella T. Grasso Southeastern Technical High School holds its open house from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. today.  Grasso Tech combines academics with 11 technical programs that teach skills such as automotive technology, carpentry and drafting.
