Daily Five: A Pasta Dinner to Benefit Cindy Grant

Five Things To Know, Monday, Feb. 11

1.  Today is Monday, Feb. 11.  The National Weather Service predicts a 100 percent chance of rain and snow before 10 a.m., then rain, patchy fog and a high temperature of 45 degrees. The low will drop to 33 degrees tonight and there's an 80 percent chance of rain, mainly before 7 p.m.

2.  The Groton Board of Education meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight in the Town Hall Annex has been canceled due to the weather. The board was expected to hear updates on redistricting, hiring, the budget and special education.

3.  The Mystic Hoxie Firehouse is hosting a family style pasta dinner to benefit Cindy Grant, an emergency dispatcher fighting multiple myeloma. She needs a stem cell transplant. The dinner will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on March 4 at the firehouse at 34 Broadway Avenue in Mystic. Tickets are $10 and available at Groton Emergency Dispatch, the Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department and the Mystic Fire Department.

4.  Noank Community Market will participate in the Cabin Fever Festival from noon until 5 p.m. on Feb. 23 at Olde Mystic Village. Market Chef Jeremy Schlimgen will compete in the Chowder Cook-Off, which he won in 2012. Proceed will benefit the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. For more informaton, click on this link.   

5.  Groton Public Library will continue its Countdown to the Oscars with a showing of the film "Terms of Endearment" at 2 p.m. The movie won best picture in 1983 and Shirley MacLaine won best actress for her portrayal of the mother in the movie.
