Daily Five: A Harbor Seal Pup and the National Anthem

Five Things To Know Friday, March 22

1.  Today is Friday, March 22.  The National Weather Service predicts partly sunny skies and a high temperature of 40 degrees. The low will fall to 28 degrees tonight.

2.  An 8-month-old harbor seal pup that had her flipper amputated will be on display at Mystic Aquarium’s Aquatic Animal Study Center starting today, according to an aquarium news release. The New England Aquarium rescued the seal. She was then admitted to the Mystic Aquarium Seal Rescue Clinic on July 16. The seal had respiratory problems and ended up with a life-threatening infection in her bone and ankle, so her flipper had to be amputated Nov. 26, the news release said.

The aquarium has submitted a letter of intent to keep the seal, and if it's approved, she'll move off display and be trained until fall. Then she’ll live in the Pacific Northwest habitat, the release said. If the request is denied, she'll move to another institution for rescued seals.
