2. Groton received an interesting request last month, and did not hesitate to fulfill it. According to Town Manager Mark Oefinger's report to the Town Council at the end of December, a submariner asked the town if it could fly a flag over Town Hall. Senior Chief Chris Dunford was stationed at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton from 1989 to 1993, and was deployed on the USS Groton in 1992. Dunford asked that the town fly the flag over Town Hall and then send it to him, and he will have it flown over other places that were important to him in his military career. The flag was flown from Dec. 30, 2011 to Jan. 2, 2012, and it will sent to Dunford soon. Dunford plans to display the flag in his military shadowbox that he is making to commemorate his retirement after 24 years in the service. Congrats on a great career, and nice job to Groton town officials for helping him!
