Daily Five: Groton Had Most April Home Sales In New London County

1.  Today is Tuesday, May 8.  The National Weather Service predicts clouds, a 40 percent chance of rain, mainly after 10 a.m., and a high temperature of 58 degrees. It’ll be breezy, with a south wind between 10 and 20 mph. The low will fall to 55 and there’s an 80 percent chance of rain tonight

2.  Groton led New London County in home sales last month, with 19 homes sold in April, according to Randall Market Watch. Waterford came in second with 18 homes sold and Montville came in third with 14 sold.

Market Watch reported Groton homes sold at a median price of $200,000 in April and were on the market 105 days.  The report showed home sales in New London County rose 18 percent during the last three months, compared to the same period last year. Prices rose 16 percent, with a median home sale price of $215,900 in April.

“With attractive mortgage rates and well-priced properties, buyers are gaining more confidence in the housing market,” Doug Randall, chief executive officer of Randall Realtors said in a press release.

3.  Assistant Secretary of the Navy Juan M. Garcia III will visit on Wednesday, the Groton sub base announced in a press release. Garcia will hold town hall style meetings with sailors Wednesday morning to talk about a new initiative that deals with five key areas: readiness, safety, physical fitness, inclusion, and continuum of service. The meetings with include a question and answer session.  

4.  Beach passes for the summer are available for sale in the , from 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday. You’ll need your current motor vehicle registration.

5.  The Trillium Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, May 12 at Groton Public Library. Club members will sell perennials from their gardens, along with small trees and shrubs to attract birds and bees. The sale will also include items like garden tools and planters.
