Daily Five: Groton School Board to Discuss Superintendent Search Tonight

Five Things To Know Monday, March 25

1.  Today is Monday, March 25.  The National Weather Service predicts an 80 percent chance of rain and snow before 3 p.m., then snow. The high temperature will reach 40 degrees and it’ll be windy, with gusts as high as 39 mph. Snow will continue tonight and the low will fall to 33 degrees. 

2.  The Groton Board of Education will meet as a Committee of the Whole at 7 p.m. today at Charles Barnum Elementary to discuss search firms to help find the next superintendent of schools.  The meeting will be open to the public.  The board began its discussion on March 11 and received five bids from search firms last week.

3.  The Fitch High School Robotics Team, the Aluminum Falcons, will hold an open house at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the High School. The team won the 2013 Regional First Robotics Competition at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and is trying to raise money to pay for its travel to the championship from April 24-27 in St. Louis.

4.  Dr. Mark Somers, a cardiologist with Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, will host a free discussion about heart health at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Groton Senior Center. Somers will speak about risk factors for heart disease, how to lower your risk and which factors can be medicated and treated.  He will also talk about how to understand signs and symptoms of the disease. 5.  State Sen. Andrew Maynard and State Rep. Elissa Wright will speak about “what’s happening in the Capitol” during a meeting at 7 p.m. today of the Southeastern Connecticut Federation of the
Democratic Women's Club. The meeting is free and will be held at Groton Public Library.
