Daily Five: Homeowners Who Lost Homes To Foreclosure May Be Eligible For Payments

Five Things To Know Tuesday, Sept. 25

1.  Today is Tuesday, Sept. 25.  The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies and a high temperature of 70 degrees. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low of 61 degrees.

2.  Payment claims are going out to thousands of people who lost their homes to foreclosure from Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec. 31, 2011, Attorney General George Jepsen said in a news release Monday. Those who are eligible under a $25 billion National Mortgage Foreclosure settlement had mortgages with Ally/GMAC, Bank of America, Citi, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo.  The settlement took effect in April. Payments will be at least $840 or higher, the release said.

3.  The William Raveis Breast Cancer Research Fund is holding an event from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Oct. 25 at the William Raveis Real Estate office at 39 E. Main St. in Mystic. The event includes wine, appetizers, desserts and a raffle for prizes. For more information, contact Dave Thomas at (860) 415-8085.

4.  Crystal Mall is hosting a “Kidgit Club’s Around the World” day from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday if you’re looking for something to do with the kids. The event will include demonstrations by Danielson Martial Arts, a make your own paper bag piñata and Chinese lantern and raffles. The first 100 kids will get goody bags.

5.  The Yale-New Haven Hospital Digital Mammography Van will visit the Groton senior Center from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday. If you haven’t had a mammogram or need one, this is an opportunity to get that test. To schedule an appointment, call (203) 688-1010.
